Foreword Reviews Names PATAGONIAN ROAD 2017 Bronze Winner for Travel

We’re delighted to announce that Foreword Reviews has named this year’s INDIES Winners – and PATAGONIAN ROAD has earned the Bronze Award in Travel.

A bit about Foreword Reviews:

“For twenty years now, Foreword has been delivering long-form book reviews of independently published books. We’ve worked hard to develop a core group of fifty skilled freelance reviewers to write competently about virtually all subjects, whether books on Isaac Newton’s laws of motion, transgender teens, or Laotian cookbooks.

Thousands of books are entered each year, and our panel of over 120 librarians and booksellers take part in the judging, narrowing it down to a group of finalists and winners that represent the best books, all independently published, in over 60 categories.”

Starting in December 2010, I travelled from Guatemala to Patagonia, making the trip mostly overland, by bus. I'm grateful for my funding provided by Wellesley College's Mary Elvira Stevens Traveling Fellowship, and am indebted to Doug Glover, who assigned me Paul Theroux's book, THE OLD PATAGONIAN EXPRESS, and thus inspired this project. I traced Theroux's footprints through Central and South America, learning Spanish, teaching English, and writing my book, PATAGONIAN ROAD.

Here's what I learned along the way: Don't listen to those who try to talk you out of your dreams. Focus on figuring out how to get to where you want to go, and then making it happen.
